We got the call from the doctor on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 that we would need to be induced at noon tomm. Little did the doctor know or remember that this was the same day our oldest daughter was born, and the same day my husband was born. Now, there would potentially be three in our family with the same birthday.
September 17th, 2009 felt like a normal day in the morning but Tom and I could not get over the fact that we knew just when we had to be at the hospital that day. We took Cait to school that morning and made sure she had cupcakes to share with her class for her birthday. Nana and Grandpa were going to pick her up from school and spend the day with her, Cameron, and their cousin Haley to celebrate since daddy and I would be in the hospital.
Tom and I drove to the hospital, talking about how weird it was to have it planned out and really dreading my being induced. I had planned all along with this pregnancy to go totally natural and at this point we were trying to figure out a code word. With the girls, I had really bad back labor and could not handle the pain so I had an epidural. This time I really wanted a vaginal delivery without drugs.
We walked into the hospital and checked in like it was just a routine visit-still feeling really weird. We were showed our room and began getting all settled and hooked up to everything. We got to the hospital a little before noon and they placed us in room 16. They started the pitocin at 2:20. The doctor came in and broke my water at 3:30 and the hard contractions started at about 4pm. It was crazy at the end, I had to tell Tom to keep reminding me to breathe but I did it with no drugs and little Thomas Dalton was born at 5:09pm. It was truly amazing and crazy all at the same time!
